SR 65/Sunset Boulevard Interchange
Highway 65 has only one at-grade, signalized intersection between I-80 and the City of Lincoln, at Sunset Boulevard in the Rocklin area. The level of traffic, ongoing development of the area, and safety concerns push the need to improve the intersection. The Placer County Department of Public Works is proposing to replace the existing interchange with a partial cloverleaf interchange, thus removing the last signalized intersection on SR 65 between I-80 and Lincoln.
The project is jointly funded between Placer County, the City of Rocklin, and the Highway 65 Joint Powers Authority. The total project cost is estimated at 22 million. Currently available funds are $14 million. The success of finding other funding sources will dictate the approach to designing and delivering the interchange.
- Environmental document – Approved by Placer County Board of Supervisors on May 23, 2006.
- Design – To commence immediately; estimated completion in late 2007/early 2008.
- Construction – Scheduled for 2008, pending funding.

Auburn-Folsom Road Widening
The project includes widening Auburn Folsom Road to provide four 12-foot lanes (two in each direction) and 6-foot paved shoulders to accommodate Class II bike lanes on each side. A raised median, granite monument, and multi-purpose trail from Eureka Road to Oak Hill Drive will also be incorporated. Existing signalized intersections (Auburn Folsom Road/Eureka Road and Auburn Folsom Road/Oak Hill Drive) will be modified, and a new signal will be installed at the intersection of Auburn Folsom Road and Fuller Drive. Access to streets and driveways, specifically left turn movements, will be maintained either through two way left turn lanes, left turn pockets, or U-turn capabilities located in close proximity.
The project has been divided into four phases: Fuller Signal (the construction of a signal at Fuller Drive and Auburn Folsom Road); North Phase (south of Douglas Blvd to approximately 1500 feet south of Eureka Road); South Phase (County Line to approximately 1500 feet north of Oak Hill Drive); and Middle Phase (1500 feet south of Eureka Road to 1500 feet north of Oak Hill Drive).
- Construction of the Signal at Fuller Drive will be completed in fall 2006.
- Construction of the next major phase will begin in 2007.
- Construction dates for the remaining phases will be determined as right-of-way is acquired, funding becomes available, and are subject to Board of Supervisors approval.
Total Project Cost: $21 million.
