Interstate 80 Improvements East of State Route 65

Overview

I-80 / Horseshoe Bar Road InterchangeAs Placer County grows, additional improvements to I-80 east of SR 65 will be needed. This project includes:

  • various capacity improvements to various interchanges, such as the Horseshoe Bar interchange in Loomis, the Rocklin Road interchange in Rocklin, and the I-80 / State Route 174 interchange in Colfax;
  • the extension of carpool and auxiliary lanes past State Route 65;
  • various overcrossing improvements; and
  • truck climbing lanes in key locations.

Partners

PCTPA - As the Regional Transportation Planning Agency (RTPA) and Transportation Authority for Placer County, the PCTPA Board determines priorities for regional transportation projects. Once funding is identified, PCTPA is responsible for making sure project area on schedule and within budget.

Member Agencies - Placer County, the City of Auburn, the City of Colfax, the City of Lincoln, the City of Rocklin, the City of Roseville, and the Town of Loomis hlep determine transportation priorities. All jurisdictions that have improvements located within their area will be part of the team overvseeing project development.

Caltrans - Because the facilities are on an interstate route, Caltrans is required to provide oversight and make sure the improvements comply with state and federal standards.

Status/Schedule

With no exisiting funding identified for any of the interchange improvements or carpool/auxiliary lane extensions included as part of this project, completion of all improvements on I-80 east of SR 65 will not occur prior to 2030. Future state and federal funds may be used to construct some of the improvements; however, a new local funding source will be needed to complete the total project. A dedicated local transportation funding source, in combination with the collection of developer fees as part of the expenditure plan, could move construction of various improvements up to 2016 with the certain interchanges being reconstructed in phases.

Current Challenges
