ABOUT THE PLACER COUNTY TRANSPORTATION PLANNING AGENCY
City and County elected officials, citizen representatives and professional transportation experts make up the Placer County Transportation Planning Agency (PCTPA). The Agency advocates for transportation improvements and manages the development of roadways, trains, public transit and congestion relief.
Specifically, PCTPA works to leverage local funding to secure federal and state investments that can pay for improvements and new roadway construction. The Agency prides itself on protecting tax dollars and investing them wisely. Superior management and taxpayer protection won PCTPA a “Tranny” award, given to transportation organizations that are efficient, effective and serve as a model for the public sector.
Currently, the only ongoing source of local money comes from development impact fees, but these funds can only be used for new roadways to accommodate growth. Developer fees cannot be used for expansion and maintenance of existing routes like I-80. Additional local matching funds are required or a “use it or lose it” provision can re-direct the money away from Placer to projects in other parts of California.
Over the next 30 years, Placer County will need $2.3 billion to deliver traffic improvements that are vital to the local economy and quality of life. PCTPA has organized a steering committee to develop a long term strategy to generate enough local money to deliver congestion relief and basic traffic improvements to meet resident needs. PCTPA invites residents to get involved and advocate for solutions that keeps Placer moving forward!
